In December 2025, ESPN marked a new chapter in its sports betting endeavors with the launch of a multi-year partnership with DraftKings, a move that positions DraftKings as the official sportsbook and odds provider for the network. This significant agreement coincided with Penn Entertainment’s rebranding of its online sportsbook to theScore Bet, following ESPN’s decision to end its previous partnership with Penn, which had been scheduled to last ten years but was terminated prematurely after less than two years.
Despite the end of the ESPN BET brand, ESPN’s executive Mike Morrison expressed optimism about the new alliance with DraftKings, highlighting the union of two leading companies valued at over $15 billion each. Morrison noted, “This is absolutely the right deal, with the right partner at the right time,” underlining the strategic fit and alignment with DraftKings. As ESPN’s vice president of business development and innovation, Morrison oversees the company’s sports betting and fantasy sports initiatives, and he sees this partnership as a significant step forward.
The collaboration with DraftKings follows ESPN’s recent rollout of a direct-to-consumer platform, enhancing the ESPN app with advanced betting data and personalized content like “SportsCenter For You,” which users can customize to suit their interests. This new integration allows fans to link their fantasy and betting preferences within a single ESPN account, a feature the network plans to fully implement by 2026.
With the addition of DraftKings’ offerings, ESPN provides a connected TV experience where users can track their bets in real-time. Although Morrison did not disclose specific future innovations, he hinted that more enhancements are on the horizon. He emphasized that the partnership facilitates the integration of breaking news with betting content, as demonstrated by the Los Angeles Lakers’ acquisition of Luka Doncic. Following the trade, the Lakers’ championship odds saw a notable improvement, illustrating how betting data can complement ESPN’s editorial coverage.
Yet, questions remain regarding the full impact of the DraftKings partnership. ESPN moved swiftly to incorporate some integrations, naming DraftKings Sportsbook as the presenting sponsor for its morning show “Get Up” and its afternoon program “NBA Today.” However, ESPN has paused its daily sports betting show “ESPN Bet Live” while evaluating its sports betting content strategy.
The future of ESPN’s sports betting content remains uncertain as the network considers its next steps, which include potentially integrating content from DraftKings’ proposed predictions market. After the partnership’s announcement, DraftKings CEO Jason Robins visited ESPN’s Bristol campus, impressing executives with his industry knowledge and adaptability to market changes.
While the terms of the ESPN-DraftKings deal were not disclosed, DraftKings has about $1.3 billion in expected contractual obligations over the next five years with various media partners. Robins believes these partnerships, including those with ESPN and NBCUniversal, will enhance brand affinity and expand reach.
Despite losing the MLB Sunday night baseball package, ESPN still holds broadcast agreements with the NHL, NFL, NBA, and MLB, ensuring a continuous presence in the top North American pro sports leagues. Morrison regards the DraftKings partnership as a natural fit, promising substantial synergies and innovation potential.
“This partnership serves as a foundation to do more innovation as the market challenges us to do that,” Morrison stated. “We’ve never been better prepared to adjust and respond to the demands of fans and the expectations that are set out in front of us.”
While ESPN navigates this new era in sports betting, the industry watches closely as the network and DraftKings explore the potential of their groundbreaking partnership. Some industry observers remain cautious, questioning how the integration will enhance content and user experience in a competitive market. However, supporters argue that leveraging ESPN’s vast audience with DraftKings’ expertise could redefine sports betting media.
With the landscape of sports media and betting rapidly evolving, ESPN and DraftKings are poised to make significant contributions to the industry, promising a future of innovation and growth as they adapt to the dynamic needs of sports enthusiasts and bettors alike.
