In a significant move during the UN General Assembly, the Better Gambling Forum presented its comprehensive framework for global player protection. This new initiative, the Responsible Gambling Practice and Policy Pillars (RG3P) Framework, consists of six pivotal pillars designed to bolster existing responsible gambling efforts rather than replace them.
These pillars encompass Education, Informed Choice and Harm Prevention; Risk Detection and Intervention; Support, Treatment and Recovery; Gambling Environment, Product and Marketing; Ethical Industry Practices and Accountability; and Research, Evaluation and Sustainable Funding. Francis Keyser, a committee member and senior vice president of product at Everi Holdings, emphasized the framework’s goal to establish a ‘gold standard’ for jurisdictions aiming to enhance gambling awareness and treatment programmes, as well as formulate effective regulations.
The launch comes against a backdrop of increasing scrutiny on the gambling industry, where regulation and player protection are becoming more critical than ever. In recent years, jurisdictions worldwide have tightened controls, aiming to curb problem gambling and ensure safer environments for players. The RG3P Framework is positioned as a tool for these regulatory bodies to leverage in their ongoing efforts to protect players.
However, not everyone is convinced about the necessity of such a framework. Some industry observers argue that the current landscape already includes a plethora of guidelines and standards. They suggest that another framework might lead to redundancy and potential confusion among stakeholders. Yet, the Better Gambling Forum maintains that their framework offers a unique and cohesive structure that integrates seamlessly with existing measures.
