VNLOK and Meta Legal Dispute in Focus
At 10:30 a.m. on the third day of the SBC Summit in Lisbon, SBC News reporters Ted Menmuir and Ted Orme-Claye joined a live discussion with Fernando Noodt, host of iGaming Daily, and producer Anaya McDonald. The panel addressed recent legal developments in the Netherlands involving VNLOK, the country’s largest betting industry trade body, and the technology company Meta.
The core of the discussion centered on allegations that Meta is failing in its regulatory duties due to advertising by illegal gambling platforms on its social media channels. VNLOK and other parties have taken legal action based on these claims. The conversation occurred against a backdrop of intense debate regarding global gambling regulations, with big tech firms identified as a primary subject of fiery discussion on the conference stages.
Celebrity Appearances and Cultural Highlights
Beyond the regulatory and legal discussions, the SBC Summit continued to attract high-profile attention. SBC News noted the presence of several prominent sports figures at the event, including basketball legend Michael Jordan, mixed martial arts fighter Charles Oliveira, and footballer Niklas Süle. Their attendance underscored the event’s broad appeal across sports and entertainment sectors.
The summit also featured cultural elements, with the SBC News team acknowledging a performance by the pop-rock band The Script. The overall atmosphere was described as energetic, with the team noting that time passes quickly when attendees are engaged in both the professional and social aspects of the summit.
Evening Schedule: SBC Awards and INFINITY Party
As the main conference sessions concluded, attention turned to the evening’s scheduled events. Closing remarks were delivered at 10:00 a.m. to wrap up the official conference sessions. The SBC Awards are set to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the MEO Arena in Lisbon. The ceremony will be hosted by Dutch football legend Edgar Davids.
Following the awards, the INFINITY closing party kicks off at 8 p.m. This final social gathering of the summit is headlined by EDM artist Tiësto. The Affiliate Leaders Awards competition winners were also congratulated during the day’s coverage. Colleagues from iGaming Expert were present on the ground in Lisbon, contributing to the broader coverage of the event. The Prediction Markets Conference is scheduled for the final day of the event.
Why It Matters
